Privacy

A privacy notice is only worth anything if it describes the site that is actually running. So this one describes what the build does and nothing else.

What this site does not do

• No analytics. Nothing here counts visitors, records sessions, or reports back to any measurement product.
• No advertising. No ad network, no ad slots, no sponsored blocks, no retargeting pixels.
• No cookies. The site sets none. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.
• No forms. There is nowhere on this site to type anything. No search box, no comments, no quiz, no calculator, no newsletter signup, no account.
• No embedded third parties. No hosted fonts, no video players, no social widgets, no chat bubbles, no tag manager.

Every page is a plain file of text and one stylesheet, and that is all the browser fetches from here.

What is left over

The pages sit on a hosting provider's servers, and a web server keeps a request log the way every web server does. That log holds an address, a timestamp, which file was asked for, and the identifying string the browser sends about itself.

That is not a choice this site makes, it is what serving a file involves. Nothing is attached to it. No analytics product reads it, it is not joined up with anything else, and it is not used to build a picture of any visitor.

Why the precision matters here rather than in general

Think about what somebody is reading when they are on this site.

A parent is looking up whether their own child is all right. A teenager might be reading the section written for them at one in the morning, on a phone that other people in the house have the passcode to, about having just lost every friend they had.

Neither of them should have to think about who else is counting. The strongest available answer is not a promise to behave responsibly with data. It is not to have the data. That is why the teen section in particular is plain pages with nothing running on them, and why none of the checklists anywhere here ask for an email address before they show you the result.

When you follow a link off this site

Most links here go outward: to government agencies, to published research, to guideline bodies, to a bookseller, and to crisis services.

The moment you follow one you are on somebody else's site under their terms, and nothing written here applies any more.

Helplines are included in that. Each one sets its own rules about handling what it is told, and none of those rules is this site's to describe. The crisis resources page is built around finding that out for yourself rather than around being reassured.

Younger readers

Part of this site is written to be read by people under 18, which is unusual for a site of this kind and worth stating here.

It changes nothing about what is collected, because nothing is collected from anyone of any age. There is no account to make, nothing to submit, and no way to be identified by reading.

Keeping this accurate

A page like this one is only useful if it matches the code that is actually running. Where the two come apart, the page is not a formality that has drifted. It is simply false. So this text gets rewritten on the day anything in the build changes, and the date above moves with it.

If something that collects data were ever added, it would be spelled out here in specific terms first, and not summarised as an improvement to your experience. Anything unclear can go to contact.
